The Role
The successful recruit will deal with a wide range of reinsurance and insurance cases (marine, non-marine and aviation) as well as major international contractual disputes arising out of trading relationships, construction projects and finance matters.
The team has particular expertise in complex, cross-border or multi-party nature, including those originating in the sectors of financial services, business contracts, employment, lender liability, professional liability, marine/aviation contractual disputes, partnership/shareholder/joint venture issues and transportation.
Examples of work undertaken by the team include:
Acting for insurers in a large broker dispute involving commission payments litigated in the High Court and subsequently resolved by mediation.
Recent High Court and Court of Appeal judgments, favourable to reinsurer clients, obtained in relation to fidelity losses (both jurisdictional dispute and claim on merits).
Representing cedants in quota share reinsurance dispute for USD 30 million involving brokers' E&O - resolved without litigation but with full recovery of claim, interest and costs.
As mediators, resolved series of disputes in respect of alleged pension mis-selling arising under professional indemnity insurance cover.
Essential Skills & Experience
Experienced associate (3 PQE+) with a background in insurance litigation although some experience in commercial litigation or arbitration would be helpful.
PQE levels are a guide, candidates with suitable experience at any level will be considered.

Commercial thinking: understanding the commercial drivers.
Cross-selling and business development.
